Am I eligible for this Con Edison rebate program?
Yes, if you are the owner of a one-to-four unit residence, and your name is on the electric and/or gas accounts with Con Edison.

How can I get a rebate for making my home more energy-efficient?
  • Contact a New York State licensed contractor near you.
  • They will evaluate your current systems and explain energy efficiency options that are right for your home.
  • Get a detailed estimate and tailor work to your budget and needs.
  • Your contractor will perform a complete professional installation.
  • Print out the rebate forms.
  • Fill out your information on the front side of the form. Your contractor will complete their information on the front as well as all the technical information requested on the back of the form and mail it in with an itemized receipt.
  • Allow six to eight weeks to receive your rebate check in the mail. It's as easy as that!

Can anyone install my energy-efficient equipment?
Qualifying equipment can be installed by a contractor of your choice who is licensed to work in New York State. Find one near you by looking here.

I purchase my residential energy supply from a supplier other than Con Edison. Can I still participate in the rebate program?
Yes. Energy delivery customers are eligible to participate if they have an active gas or electric account with Con Edison.

I am interested in the home and duct sealing rebate. Can any contractor do the work?
No. You must choose a contractor who is certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and is licensed to work in New York State.

Do you have a program where someone does an energy survey at my house?
Con Edison offers home energy surveys for $50. Click here for more information.

What is duct sealing?
Ducts are used to distribute conditioned air throughout the house. A duct system that is properly sealed and insulated can enhance indoor air quality and make your home more energy efficient.

What is air sealing?
Air leaks are often found at cracks, small holes and penetrations for plumbing, wiring, lighting and ductwork. Sealing a home is an important step in controlling the indoor environment and lowering energy bills.

What are AFUE and EF?
  • AFUE is the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency; the higher the AFUE rating, the more efficient the boiler or furnace.
  • EF is the Energy Factor, a measure of the water heater's efficiency. The higher the EF rating, the more efficient the water heater.

What are SEER and EER?
  • Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), is most commonly used to measure the efficiency of a central air conditioner. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the system.
  • Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is a measure of how efficiently a cooling system will operate when the outdoor temperature is at a specific level. The higher the EER, the more efficient the system.

What is HSPF?
Heat Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) is the most commonly used measure of a heat pump's heating efficiency. The higher the HSPF, the more efficient the heat pump.

What is the certified reference number?
The ARI certified reference number, also known as the AHRI reference number, is important because it proves that equipment meets the energy efficiency standards of Con Edison programs. The Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) rates the efficiency of appliances and assigns the ARI reference number. The ARI reference number is the first number listed on the certificate of products rating.

How do I find the ARI reference number for my new high-efficiency equipment?
Go to: www.ahridirectory.org and follow the equipment-specific instructions:

Furnace
  • Select Furnace from Residential List.
  • You can leave all fields blank if you input the model number.
  • If this is your first time logging on, in the lower right you may be asked to input the security code, do so and hit search.
  • Locate your model on the list that comes up and double click to print the certificate.
Water/Steam Boiler
  • Select Boiler from Residential List.
  • Select your boiler manufacturer from the pull down list.
  • Input the boiler model number.
  • Locate your model on the list that comes up and click to print the certificate.
Indirect Water
  • Select Indirect Fired Water Heaters from the Residential List.
  • Download the directory of certified indirect fired water heaters.
  • Locate your equipment in the directory. (If your equipment does not appear, it may not qualify for a rebate.)
Central Air Conditioner and Central Air Source Heat Pump
  • Select Air Conditioner and Air Conditioner Coils or Heat Pumps and Heat Pump Coils from Residential List.
  • Input your condenser model number in the outdoor model number field.
  • Input your coil model number in the indoor model number field.
  • If this is your first time logging on, in the lower right you may be asked to input the security code, do so and hit search.

Can I get a rebate without listing the certified reference number on the rebate form?
No. The certified reference number is especially important for split air conditioning and heat pump systems because there are many combinations possible when installing the condensing unit (installed outside the house) and the evaporator (installed inside the ductwork). For a system to work up to its energy efficiency specifications, the two units must be matched properly. If you need assistance call 1-800-430-9505.

What documentation is required for a programmable thermostat rebate?
  • If you have a cooling thermostat, include the specification sheet for the central air conditioning unit.
  • If you have a heating thermostat, include the specification sheet for the heating unit.
  • If you have a dual thermostat, include specification sheets for both your heating and cooling equipment.
  • Thermostats controlling more then one piece of equipment are not eligible for multiple rebates. A rebate is issued per thermostat, not per equipment controlled.

If the energy efficiency ratings of an appliance meet the requirements for the federal tax credit, can I assume it meets requirements of the Con Edison program?
No. An appliance may qualify for one program but not the other. The energy efficiency ratings, including the certified reference number, must be documented in order to receive a Con Edison rebate.

What is an ECM?
ECM stands for electronically commutated motor, which is a high-efficiency electric motor. It can be used to power a fan in a whole-house heating and/or cooling system.

If my energy-efficient air conditioner contains an ECM, can I get a rebate for both the air conditioning system and the ECM?
No, but you can get the extra ECM rebate if it is installed with an air-source heat pump or natural gas furnace.

Who should fill out the rebate form, myself or the contractor?
The customer should fill out their information on the front side of the form and the contractor should complete their information on the front as well as all the technical information requested on the back of the form.

How long will it take to get a check after I submit my rebate form?
Six to eight weeks. It will definitely take longer if information is missing from the rebate form. So please make sure your contractor fills in all the required technical information.

Can I receive Con Edison rebates and still apply for other rebates or government tax credits?
You can receive a rebate from Con Edison, participate in the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program, and also receive federal tax credits. However, you cannot receive rebates for the same piece of equipment or measure from Con Edison and NYSERDA. You can receive incentives on different qualified equipment or measures from local and state programs and you can receive a federal tax credit on many energy efficiency measures installed. You might also contact your contractor or the equipment manufacturer about coupons or rebates on specific energy efficiency equipment.

How long will the rebates last?
These energy efficiency programs will be offered through 2015. Rebates will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Con Edison reserves the right to amend or terminate this offer.

What does it mean to be BPI certified?
Contractors certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) earn an incentive for each qualified energy efficiency installation. Visit www.BPI.org to learn more about the principles of building science and the whole-home approach to contracting. This site also lists upcoming training.

How are Con Edison's programs funded?
Our energy efficiency programs are funded through the New York State System Benefits Charge, paid by electric and gas distribution customers of Con Edison for public policy programs such as energy efficiency.

How can I learn more about NYSERDA programs?
